Jelly Fridays

What is ‘Jelly Friday’ or a Jelly for that matter?

Jelly Friday is a casual working event. It started in New York in 2006 when a couple of guys realized that they loved working from home, but they missed the creative brainstorming, sharing, and camaraderie of a traditional office (although not so much the office politics!). So they started inviting friends to come work at their apartment one day a week. Working in close proximity to new and interesting people every couple weeks resulted in new ideas and interesting conversations so they made it a regular thing. It’s like a bunch of musicians coming together for a ‘jam’, but maybe not quite as loud. Today ‘jellys’ take place in over a hundred cities around the world where people come together (in a person’s home, a coffee shop, or an office) to work alongside each other for the day.

How does Jelly Friday work?

Once a month we’re opening our doors at The Hangar for Jelly Friday. It’s free but space is limited so we ask that you contact us so we make sure we save a seat for you. We provide chairs, desks or couches, fast wireless internet, some snacks and a few other creative independents to chat with and possibly collaborate with or bounce ideas off of. You bring a laptop (or whatever you need to get your work done) and your friendly self. We’ll work for the afternoon then move upstairs to the cinema for after work drinks. You don’t have to stay for the entire day – just drop in for as long as you like.

Who comes to a Jelly?
Well, everyone is welcome. In other parts of the world, jellies tend to attract designers, developers, and internet types, but product designers, photographers, writers, and more have attended and we’re looking forward to seeing who will turn up in Queenstown. Whether you’re an entrepreneur or freelancer, an artist or are usually in an office but able to work remotely occasionally, join us for a change of pace to your work day. No matter what you do or what you create, you’re welcome to come to Jelly Friday.
